We've decided to digitally reissue minamo's first album "wakka" for the first time in 20 years. Here's why.

We've been talking about reissuing our past works for the past few years, but we've been working on it at a leisurely pace, not in a coherent way, but as if we were leaning on some kind of opportunity. Last year, in conjunction with the release of two new albums, "Superstition" (co-produced with 12k/Moskitoo) and "Superscience" (901 Editions), We also reissued "Beautiful" (apestaartje) from 2003 with the help of 12k's Taylor Dupree and apestaartje's Koen Holtkamp. There are many other works that have yet to be digitized, but we feel especially privileged to be able to reissue the special work "wakka".

This is a CD-R originally released in 1999 as the first title of cubic music, but for this reissue on Bandcamp, we are using the remastered sound for another edition released in 2001 by Quakebasket label in New York. The Quakebasket edition includes remastered tracks from the label owner Tim Barnes' studio Lostplanet in Soho, unreleased live tracks, and four postcards in a handmade wooden box with minamo's name printed on it. Since it was limited to 100 sets, only Sasamoto-san is the only member of minamo who has it, making it very rare.

The first time We met Tim was when he came to Japan as a support drummer for Jim O'Rourke, who was still living in Chicago at the time, and he happened to buy "wakka" at LOS APSON? It was Tim, of all people, who brought about the encounter and experience that became a major turning point in expanding the scope of our activities. Most of what happened during that time is not on the Internet, and we don't want to rely on the Internet for everything.

After two tours in the US and in Japan, we heard through the grapevine that Tim had suddenly left New York. In 2012, as we were planning minamo's cross-American tour, we got in touch with him again and visited his home in Louisville, Kentucky, where he lives with his partner Erica and their two sons. Tim's face is muscular from his long-distance marathon training. It was Tim decorates the house for Halloween for his children. It was Tim started ARTxFM with his friends , a local online radio station, and are working hard to make it an FM station. It was Tim who has just renovated an abandoned theater and launched a new venue called Dreamland. His eyes were full of life as he races through this new stage of his life, and he hugs us passionately and deeply with the same strength he had when we first met.

This year, on January 26, 2021, we sent a messenger to Tim asking about the recurrence of "wakka," and he immediately replied, "Great. Let's go for it”. It was two months later, on March 19, that we felt something was strange. I opened his message and he said again, "I think that's a great idea” …What? I wondered, "Does that mean we should release it asap? So we just replied with a “Like”. Only four days later, Erica's timeline showed that Tim had been diagnosed with EOAD (Early Onset Alzheimer's Disease) by his doctor.

What is generally known about Alzheimer's disease is that it can be slowed down, but there is still no cure for it. According to Erica, the main symptoms are difficulty with verbal memory and expression, number and spatial recognition, concentration and use of technology. The year 2006 coincided with Tim's sudden disappearance from NYC. So that's what happened.

The fact that the reissue of "wakka" coincided with Tim's current situation is a mere coincidence, but it is the coincidence that has strongly supported the timing of this project. We will be donating 100% of the proceeds from the sale of this album directly to Tim Barnes to help with his medical bills and support his family. Also, May 7, 2021, when this album is released, will be Bandcamp Friday (this campaign ends this month), when all Bandcamp sales will go back to the artist. If you'd like to join us, please do.

You don't have to buy "wakka" to support Tim directly. For more information, please visit the CaringBridge website, where Erica is also involved.
